ISLAMABAD: Three mortar shells were recovered from Rawal Dam on Saturday, the police have said.
They said passersby spotted the shells while strolling down the bank of the Rawal Dam, on the Murree Road side. They informed the police, who arrived at the location with members of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
They said all three shells were defused and moved from the site by the BDS.
They said the shells surfaced when water in the dam receded, and were covered in a layer of mud.
It has yet to be established whether the shells were left over from the Ojhri Camp disaster in 1988, they said, adding that the BDS is working to ascertain whether the shells were kept there by someone.
