Basic facilities for Fata pledged

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah has said that the government is determined to provide basic civic facilities to the people of Fata (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) at their doorstep.

He stressed the importance of international support to achieve the objective.

The governor was addressing a ceremony at which an agreement was signed with the USAID for the construction of a 132ky grid station for Bajaur Agency along the 40km transmission line. The ceremony was held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad.

`We are confident to launch projects of similar nature in other tribal agencies as well,` he said.

Additional Chief Secretary Arbab Mohammad Arif and the head of the USAID mission in Pakistan, Greggory Gottlieb, signed the document. Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan and MNAs Haji Bismillah Khan and Shahabuddin Khan and senior officials of the Fata secretariat and USAID and some tribal elders from Bajaur Agency were present.

Highlighting the importance of the project, which is expected to cost $9 million, the governor said: `We are trying to overcome the energy problem with the active support of USAID and we wish to have more such projects for the rest of Fata.`-APP
