Firing on rally PML-N MPA, MC chairman, 20 others booked under ATA

FAISALABAD: Police have booked a provincial assembly member of PML-N, Tandlianwala Municipal Committee chairman and more than 30 others under AntiTerrorism Act and some sections of Pakistan Penal Code for injuring 12 participants in a rally.

The case was registered on the complaint of one of the injured people, Shaheer Dawood, of Mubarak pura, Tandlianwala, under sections 7-ATA, 109, 148, 149 and 324 of the PPC against 12 identified and 20-25 unidentified people, including ruling party MPA Jaffar Ali.

At least 12 people sustained bullet injuries in firing during a clash between the supporters of MNA Rajab Ali Baloch and MPA Jaffar Ali Hocha, both belonging to the ruling PML-N, in the main Tandlianwala bazaar over `forced closure of shops` According to the complainant, a rally was held on Monday and when it reached near Rail Bazaar,suspects Muhammad Saeed (MC chairman), Shahzad, Taimoor, Ramzan Ameen, Ahsan, Mona, Gohar Abbas, Zulfiqar, Sadi Ahmed, Irshad and Noubahar, who were armed with guns, attacked the rally along with 20-25 unidentified people.

The attackers opened straight fire which left 12 people injured, including Shaheer (the complainant), Ahsan, Shahzad, Ashraf, Ameen, Rehman, Mohammad Hussain, Bilal, Ahsan Riaz, Hashim, Iqbal, Junaid and Abdul Rehman.

The complainant alleged that the suspects opened fire on peaceful people at the behest of MPA Jaffar Ali Hocha.

M e a n w h i 1 e , Tandlianwala Bazaar traders kept their shops closed in morning hours on Tuesday, demanding arrest of the suspects.

The traders resumed their business following police assurance that justice would be dispensed.

Tandlianwala Bar Association members observed a strike to show solidarity with MPA Jaffar Ali and demanded withdrawal of the FIR against him.
