By Our Correspondent 2017-03-01
BUNER: The Daggar tehsil council on Tuesday decided that a four-member committee would meet the village council members of Kalabat to discuss the issue of shifting the waste dumping site from the village to a suitable place.

The decision was made after the member waste disposal committee informed the council that the villagers of Kalabat were angry over waste dumping site in their locality and warned of agitation if it was not shifted from there.

The monthly meeting of the council was chaired by convener Khalid Khan, while nazim Saeedur Rehman Mufakir, opposition leader Ashfaq Ahmed and other male members were also present.

Women members abstained from the meeting as usual.

The council discussed the solid waste management issue of three union councils and reviewed implementation on selection of three dumping sites.

It also debated the issue of occupation of graveyard land, canals and thoroughfares by the influential people, which had led to clashes among the locals in the past.

The councillors expressed concern over the slow pace of work on development schemes and demanded of the authorities to penalise the contractors failing to ensure quality work.

The meeting took up the matter of marble factories disposing of waste matter into the clean water, which posed serious health and environmental hazards.
