CTD arrests five suspected terrorists

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested five suspected terrorists and recovered suicide jackets and explosives.

A spokesman said a Lahore CTD team received information that some terrorists were hiding in a house on Abu Bakr Road near Saggian Bridge and planning to attack some installation in the city.

He said the CTD team conducted a raid and arrested three members of banned Jamatul Ahrar (JA) who were identified as Sher Ali, Muhammad Ibrahim and Azizullah.

He said they also recovered a suicide jacket and hand grenades from their possession and shifted them to an undisclosed location for funher interrogation.

The spokesman said the terrorists belonged to JA and received [militant] training in Afghanistan. He said the terrorists were involved in attacking law-enforcement agencies personnel in Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

In another raid, a Gujrat CTD team arrested two members of proscribed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and recovered explosives from their possession.

The CTD spokesman said they received information that terrorists were hiding in a house near Gujrat General Bus Stand and planning to attack some installation.

He said a CTD team conducted a raid and arrested two members of LeJ who were identified as Tariq and Inamullah.

He said the team also recovered 2.186-kg explosives, two detonators and 95inch Prima cord from their possession.

He said a case under section 4/5 ESA, 7 Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) was registered against them with CTD Gujranwala police.
