Teachers reject new induction policy

2017-08-01
PESHAWAR: An association of teachers has rejected the government`s new induction policy for teachers and demanded of the provincial government to retain the previous recruitment system to save their future.

Prospective Teachers Association Khyber Pal(htunkhwa president Shababur Rehman told reporters at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday that the government had introduced a new recruitment policy, which had done away with the condition of professional degrees for the teachers` posts.

He said the decision was a great setback for the education sector.

Mr Rehman said unfortunately, the government didn`t consult education experts and researchers before enforcing the policy, which was bound to negatively impact on the current research and education system.

He said the Higher Education Commission was not taken on board about the framing of the new policy by the government.

`In order to support new induction policy, the provincial education authorities have given reference of the HEC Education Policy 2009 though BEd is mandatory for teaching at elementary level, while the duration of BEd course has also been enhanced by abolishing PTC and CT under the HEC policy,` he said.

The PTA provincial president said the provincial government`s decision had put the future of teachers at stake and that the absence of professionals would harm the education system instead of causing any improvement.

He demanded of the provincial government to immediately withdraw the new induction policy in the best interest of the education sector in the province and thus, saving the future of a large number of BEd and MEd teachers and students. Bureau Report
