PPP in coalition talks with JUI-F, ANP leaders

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party leaders met on Monday officebearers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-IslamFazl and the Awami National Party in an attempt to form an electoral alliance for upcoming local government polls in the province.

The PPP leaders` meeting with the JUI-F was their second within a week at Chief Minister House. Earlier, the two sides met on Wednesday.

Senior Minister Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, special assistants to the chief minister Dr Qayyum Soomro, Syed Waqar Mehdi, Rashid Rabbani and PPP Karachi Division President Najme Alam represented the PPP`s side while JUI-F delegation was led by its provincial secretary Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro, Qari Muhammad Usman, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Maulana Nasir Mehmood Soomro, Taj Muhammad Nahyoon, Maulan Shamsuddin and Maulana Asim Karim.

Meanwhile, a delegation of PPP Karachi division led by its president Najme Alam paid a visit to Mardan House and exchanged views with ANP leaders on possibility of forming an alliance for local government polls.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, he said the purpose of the visit was to form a broader alliance with ANP like the one the party had entered with JUI-F. It was their first meeting which went quite encouragingly, he said.

Answering a question he said the PPP was prepared to join hands with other parties as well.

ANP Sindh General Secretary Yunus Khan Buneri said that they had contested LG polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa jointly with PPP and JUI-F and in Balochistan also. Their efforts were aimed at making the city once again a city of lights that it used to be some 30 years ago, he said.
