By Abid Mahmood 2015-10-01
NAROWAL: The Government Postgraduate College of Commerce, Narowal, has been short of qualified teaching staff after twice upgradation of the institute and provision of a new building for the institute.

Established in 1979, the college launched B.Com classes after upgradation in 2006. In 2013, the college was again upgraded for introducing M.Com programme.

The college has been provided with a new building at a cost of Rs50 million. The government neither arranged required teachers for B.Com classes nor for M.Com programme.

Initially the government had appointed four teachers for B.

Com students from TechnicalEducation and Vocational Training Authority.

The teachers were not properly trained and qualified for B.Com students, but in 2012 the government handed over the administration of the college to higher education department and Tevta teachers were sent to their parent institution.

Since then the college has been enrolling students for B.Com and M.Com classes every year but it has no required lecturers and professors. As a result students have no option except to opt for private tuition while classrooms in the college are locked due to unavailability of the teaching staff.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, had also promised appointment of lecturers and professors at the inauguration of the new building of the college in 2013 but students are still awaiting teachers.

Sakhawat Ali, the acting principal of the college, said he had time and again written to the edu-cation department to provide teachers but to no avail.

He said: `Most of the B.Com and M.Com students do not attend college due to non-availa-bility of the teaching staff.

Deputy Director (Colleges) Arshad Ali said: `The department is making all-out efforts to provide the required teachingstaff.

Muhammad Shahid Gujjar and Iqbal Nasir, parents of two students, said the education department had failed to manage the college.NAROWAL: The Government Postgraduate College of Commerce, Narowal, has been short of qualified teaching staff after twice upgradation of the institute and provision of a new building for the institute.
