Governor rule talk worries JI

2016-11-01
PESHAWAR: The daylong media hype about imposition of governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa worried Jamaat-i-Islami, the coalition partner of the ruling PTI, prompting it to reiterate that it would resist any such move.

The JI Parliamentary Party in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly huddled together at Al Markaz Islami on Monday and discussed the prevailing political situation. A statement said that the provincial chief Mushtaq Ahmad Khan chaired the meeting.

It was decided that JI would strongly oppose the Governor Rule in the province. The statement said the JI would take every step to protect constitution and democratic institutions.

The JI is also against the dissolution of the assembly. Under Article 234 of the Constitution, the federal government can impose Governor Rule in case of the failure of the constitutional machinery in any province.

The statement said in the presence of constitution, parliament and judiciary JI would not tolerate any unconstitutional step in the country. It said that lockdown of cities and towns and use of force were symbols of fascism. However, it said the political parties had the right to hold rallies and public meetings.

Senior minister Inayatullah Khan, finance minister Muzafar Said, minister for Zakat Habibur Rehman, MPAs Mohammad Ali Khan, Saeed Gul and Aizazul Mulk Afkari attended the meeting. On the other hand, major opposition parties in the KP Assembly have also planned to submit a no confidence resolution to the assembly secretariat against Chief Minister Pervez Khattak following statement of PTl Chairman Imran Khan that the provincial assembly would be dissolved.

Pervez Khattak told media on Monday that he would dissolve the cabinet if he received advice from Imran Khan. However, he said that he would not dissolve the assembly. Bureau
