TIMERGARA: A peace volunteer was killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on him in Lagharai area here on Monday, residents and police said.

They said the victim identified as Bahadar Khan of Kuro Bagh in Maidan along with other volunteers was on way to oversee an electrification scheme when unknown people opened fire on him when they reached Lagharai area, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Lal Qila hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Lal Qila police registered a case and started investigations.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy identified as Sadam Khan of Qasho Dull area, was killed allegedly in an accidental fire. Local residents said Niaz Ali was playing with a loaded pistol at home when it suddenly went off, and a bullet hit his cousin Sadam. The victim died while being taken to Samarbagh hospital. The police said no one had registered case with them.
