WASHINGTON, Nov 30: The US has conveyed to Pakistan its concern over Dr Shakil Afridi`s hunger strike, sources told Dawn on Friday.

US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told a briefing on Thursday the United States was concerned about Dr Afridi`s safety and will raise it at a series of forthcoming meetings with Pakistan.

Explaining the US position on the issue, the spokesperson said Washington believed Dr Afridi should never have been arrested. Although an employee of the Pakistani government, Dr Afridi helped the CIA locate Osama bin Laden at a compound in Abbottabad.-Correspondent
