Militancy far from over`

2015-12-01
THIS refers to your editorial `Militancy far from over` (Nov 22). Although it has taken a few recent terrorist attacks to substantiate the claim that militancy is not over, when we analyse the current situation in the overall perspective, one could easily call it a fairly stable affairs.

We should also be mindful of the ground realities that a complete elimination of terrorism from the country, especially when it is being sponsored by enemy intelligence agencies, will not be an easy task. It will require a sustained effort at national level by the armed forces in fighting terrorism, the government politically and the judiciary in dispensing speedy justice.

None of the three can achieve the ultimate goal alone without complementing each other`s efforts and in a cohesive action plan at the national level.

The solution lies in the unity of the political and military leadership towards an early achievement of peace and stability and the judiciary in ensuring quicl< dispensation of justice. The political government and the army must sort out differences and must avoid washing dirty linen in public.

The Rangers` claim about the possibility of involvement of criminals on bail in the killing of their four soldiers needs to be examined and taken up by the court and the investigating agencies.
