By Our Staff Reporter 2016-01-02
LAHORE: A number of Jamaat-i-Islami activists staged a protest demonstration on Wahdat Road on Friday against the installation of a batching plant in the locality for the Orange Line Metro Train Project.

The protesters blocked Wahdat Road, chanted slogans and termed the plant injurious to public health due to noise and dust pollution. They said the operation of the plant had made the life of the residents miserable. They threatened if the government didn`t shift the plant outside the city within a week, the locals would themselves halt its operation.

Meanwhile, the City District administration received a briefing from the Orange Line project staff and sought adequate safety measures for thousands of workers engaged in the construction work.

It also directed the traffic police and Tepa to ensure a smooth flow of traffic along the 27.1km route of the project.

DETAINED: Various teams of the City District Government of Lahore on Friday detained managers of three petrol pumps for not following the new prices of diesel and oil products.

The teams, according to a spokesman, also imposed a fine of Rs16,000 on others in this regard.
