Pictures, paintings celebrate art in 2015, Jinnah`s life

LAHORE: Two art exhibitions on the last two days of the year at Coopera Art Gallery and the National College of Arts (NCA) enriched the city`s art scene.

An exclusive group show of paintings titled Lights of 2015 opened at Coopera Art Gallery on Wednesday displaying around 60 artworks by 32 veteran as well as upcoming artists.

Coopera had organised the show with the aim to commemorate and celebrate art activities held during 2015 and provide an opportunity toart lovers and students to enjoy a variety of artworks under one roof.

The paintings created in different styles and school of thoughts represented social and cultural lives of people.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Ata Mohammad Maneka. He praised the artworks as well as efforts made by the management of the art gallery. He said such events were always of great help in promoting and appreciating art, literature and culture.

The participating artists included Khalid Mahmud, Saeed Akhtar, Muhammad Javed, AjazAnwar, Shahida Manzoor, Ghulam Mustafa, Naila Aamir, Nazir Ahmad, Mahboob Ali, Abo B Rana, Sumera Jawad, Abid Husain Qureshi, Irfanullah Babar, Munawar Mohiuddin, Amjad Naeem, Anila Ghulam Husain, Mahmood Alam, Maryam Saif, Dilawar Ali, Bushra Gul, Nadia Abbas, Farida Fatima, Masood Hayat, Mohammad Shafiq, Iqbal Ahmad Kholchar, Iram Shahin, Shahid Iqbal, Erum Ashfaq, Mohammad Gulzar, Nasir Nirwan, Shaista and Nadia.

A large number of artists, art lovers and students were present at the opening ceremony. The exhibitionwill remain on display till Jan 9.

A photographs exhibition titled Muhammad Ali Jinnah regarding Quaid-i-Azam Day was organised by archives department of the NCA on Thursday. College Principal Dr Murtaza Jafri inaugurated the show at the architecture block where 150 rare photographs were displayed.

The photographs included Jinnah`s portraits, his meetings with leaders and the public, addresses in the assembly and other occasions. Photographs and news reports of his burial ceremony were also exhibited.

Dr Jafri shed light on Jinnah`s life and his struggle for Pakistan.
