Judge’s interim bail extended

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-02-02
ISLAMABAD: Additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Raja Asif Mehmood on Wednesday extended the interim bail of the judge, accused of abusing a child maid, until Feb 10.

The judge also asked the minor and her father to appear before the court on the next date of hearing.

Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar are facing charges of abusing and torturing 10-year-old housemaid Tayyaba.

Ms Zafar obtained pre-arrest bail from the same court on Jan 2 after Raja Khurram secured a compromise deal with the parents of the child maid.

ADSJ Raja Asif Mehmood granted her bail and another ADSJ Ata Rabbani handed over Tayyaba to her parents.

Supreme Court on Jan 4 took up a suo motu notice of the alleged compromise and the way both the judicial officers handled the matter.

The Supreme Court has termed the said compromise ‘unacceptable’ after father of Tayyaba disowned the compromise deal.

During the proceedings of the apex court it was revealed that a lawyer Raja Zahoor Hassan, who was a relative of judge Raja Khurram, brought Tayyaba’s parents from Jaranwala, prepared the compromise deed and got thumb impression of her father on the paper without even telling him what was written on it.

Zahoor also appeared as counsel for Tayyaba’s parents before ADSJ Raja Asif on Jan 2 and Jan 3.
