LAHORE: Punjab Rangers and police took into custody on Wednesday 49 people in combing operations in four districts, according to a news release by Rangers.
The operation was conducted in Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Attock and Rajanpur where 49 people, stated to be militants, were taken into custody and a huge cache of ammunition, hate literature and liquor seized.
Punjab Rangers Director General Maj Gen Azhar Naveed Hayat Khan along with Brig Asim Gardezi, Commander Sutlej Rangers, visited dif ferent areas of Lahore region to monitor security tasks by Rangers and police.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, 11 peoplewere arrested in the Saddar area, according to acting district police officer (DPO) Sajjad Ali Gujjar.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr Haider Ashraf said he was unaware of any Rangers-led operation in the city.
He said the Rangers and police combed in and around Qadhafi Stadium ahead of Pakistan Super League final on March 5.
Attock DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat said suspects were initially handed over to the Counter Terrorism Department of police for interrogation.
He said some eight to 10 people were taken into custody in Attock, of them innocent would be released after preliminary investigation. -Reporter
