Folk music festival held at Salu

KHAIRPUR: Culture, civilisation and heritage are the base of civilised nations which can provide a viable platform for inter-provincial harmony, peace and tolerance in society.

This was stated by Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah while delivering her presidential speech at a the folk music festival jointly organised by Salu, the Bhitai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA) and the Inter-university Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities (IUCPSS).

She said that overall peace was important, adding that `we can enjoy benefits of the latest technological and scientific advancement in the presence of peace because we need a better world for our next generation`, according to an official press release of Salu sent on Wednesday.

The dean of the faculty of social sciences and arts, and the focal person of the IUCPSS thanked the guests, delegates and sponsors.

Others who also spoke on the occasion included Kaleem Durrani from the Irtiqa Institute of Social Sciences, Karachi, Anwar Rashid from Karachi, Sayed Gul from Kelash Vallay, Chitral, Sana Aijaz from the KPK.

Harmony Theatre Group of Gilgit Baltistan and Sojhla Cultural Group of Multan performed on the stage. Tableaux and folk dances were performed by various schools.

Prof Dr Parveen Shah distributed awards, prizes and certificates among winners of different events held on the occasion.
