Chief Justice`s address

2017-04-02
ADDRESSING a select gathering on the occasion of the full court reference in honour of the retiring Supreme Court Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Chief Justice Saqin Nisar asserted the independence of the judiciary and the judges`integrity and courage to give decisions on f acts and laws.

He said the cause of lack of good governance was the appointments of favouriteofficialsingovernment institutions. This practice weakens the institutions and hampers their performance.

I think the chief justice has rightly pinned the cause of lack of good governance.

Corruption and nepotism are the two evils of our system which have eroded and hollowed institutions from inside out. We need to establish a system based purely on merit, competence and honesty.

The supreme court is the last arbiter on issues of fundamental rights. The independence of the judiciary is a must for an egalitarian and progressive society.

Paying rich tributes to Justice Hani ,he said Amir Muslim Hani had given many decisions that would serve as guidance for the other judges too. He has played an important role in the history of the judiciary. He has set an illuminating and shinning example.

I think Justice Hani deserves all accolades for his services to the cause of justice.
