Schoolteachers threaten sit-in for timescale promotion

By Our Correspondent 2015-07-02
LAKKI MARWAT: The Secondary School Teachers Association, Lakki Marwat district, has threatened to stage sit in outside the building of provincial assembly in Peshawar if the notification of timescale promotion formula was not issuedby the provincialgovernment.

The threat was issued during a meeting here on Wednesday. President of the association Hidayatullah Khan chaired the meeting, where secondary schoolteachers showed up in large numbers.

The participants resented the delay in issuance of timescale notification and said the delay was causing unrest among the community.

On the occasion, Hidayatullah said the provincial assembly had approved the timescale promotion formula for secondary schoolteachers but the relevant quarters of the government were reluctant to release its notification.

He said secondary schoolteachers lacked promotion opportunities, while the delay in issuance of timescale promotion notification would deny them promotion forever.

`The government should stop injustices to the teaching community,` he said, adding that the use of delaying tactics and red tape policy was not acceptable to the association of secondary schoolteachers.

He also said secondary schoolteachers would hold demonstrations outside the provincial assembly if their genuine demand was not met.

Meanwhile, office-bearers of teacher organisations have demanded one-step post up-gradation for BPS-15 teachers and conveyance allowance for all teachers during the summer vacation.

All Primary Teachers Association district president Haji Abdul Rahim and Humkhyal Teachers Union chairman Sifatullah Khan told Dawn on Wednesday that their organisations would support the government`s programmes for teacher welfare.

Rahim said the provincial and federal governments had disappointed their employees, especially teachers, by not increasing their perks and privileges in the next budgets.

He said denial of conveyance allowance to teachers during the summer vacation was unjustified and that the government should ensure its immediate restoration.

Sifatullah Khan said onestep post up-gradation announced by the government in the budget was of no use for many teachers.

He demanded one-step promotion for primary schoolhead teachers too.

P R O F I T E E R I N G CHECKED: The food department has claimed there is local profiteering in local markets during Ramazan.

District food inspector Inamullah Khan told Dawn on Wednesday that surprise visits to local markets by him, district food controller and district administration officials had ensured the sale of fruits and vegetables at the rates fixed by it.

He said fruit and vegetable rates were lower in the town compared with other areas.

`We`ll continue paying surprise visits to bazaars to ensure that traders don`t profiteer,` he said.
