Teachers refuse to perform LG re-polling duty

MARDAN: The members of All Education Coordination Council have said that they will not perform duty in the re-polling for local governments, scheduled to be held on July 5.

The decision was taken in an emergent meeting of All Education Coordination Council here on Wednesday.

The meeting, presided over by Hafiz Zubair, was attended by Mohammad Siraj, Jamshed Khan, Inayat Ali Khan, Khalid Kamal, Farhad Takar, Qazi Syedul Ibrar, Ghazi Gul, Ikram Bacha, Fayaz Ali Shah and Abdul Ahad.

The participants of the meeting alleged that the teachers performing duty in the May 30 local government elections were humiliated.

They said that at some polling stations the teachers were harassed and beaten up but the authorities concerned did not bother to take action against the people responsible for it.

They said that it was the duty of government to provide security to election staff during the voting process but it failed to provide protection to them. They said that the time for repolling was not suitable and in such a situation it would be difficult for them to perform duty during the repolling.

The meeting urged teachers not to receive any order related to election duty if sent to their homes by the relevant authorities. The participants of the meeting threatened to resist if they were forced to perform duty during the re-polling on July 5.

ELECTROCUTED: Two girls were electrocuted in separate incident s in Mardan city on Wednesday, the Rescue-1122 officials said.

They said that eight-yearold Hasina was electrocuted near the agriculture of fice in Guli Bagh area when she was switching on a water pump, located at her home.

Therescuersrushedtothe spot and took the victim to Mardan Medical Complex where the doctor pronounced her dead.

The second incident happened in Foram Koorona area, where Chandani, 13, was electrocuted when he was switching off a water pump. She died instantly.
