Mirpurkhas BISE official suspended

MIRPURKHAS: On an order of the Sindh chief minister, the Mirpurkhas Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education deputy secretary (establishment) was placed under suspension with immediate effect on Tuesday to facilitate an inquiry against him in a graft case.

Barkat Qureshi, who previously held the post of the board`s secretary and removed amid charges of corruption, is facing a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau, which has already taken the board`s record in custody.

Mr Qureshi, former board chairman Shafique Ahmed Khan, controller of examinations Abdul Hafeez and other officials are facing charges of misappropriating the institution`s funds to the tune of millions of rupees each.

Protest over minister`s remarks Scores of Pir Lawari Sharif devotees hailing from Badin district held a demonstration outside the Kot Ghulam Mohammed press club on Tuesday to register their protest over alleged remarks against their spiritual leader by Abdul Qayyoom Soomro, an adviser to the chief minister.

Faqeer Allah Dad Junejo, Partab Rai, Jameel Ahmed and Pyaro Khan led the protesters carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the adviser.
