Plastic bags

2016-11-02
I WANT to raise my voice against the frequent use of plastic bags, which are not biodegradable. Only 12pc of these bags are recycled. Plastic bags are harmful to our environment and they 1(ill animals. When they are gone, we are in trouble.

Birds, dolphins, sharks, whales, turtles, etc, can inhale or eat plastic bags. This can suffocate them and cause diseases, and we eat what`s in the ocean. At least 267 species have suffered from entanglement or ingestion of plastic debris in the ocean.

Studies suggest that 90pc of seabirds now have plastic in them. When their guts become stuffed with bits of plastic, there is no room for food and birds starve to death. I have a few suggestions for making the ban on plastic bags effective. We should carry a cloth and jute bags and mud pots for carrying liquids like oil, milk etc.

Shopkeepers should keep paper bags only. If we are willing to change our habits by switching from using plastic bags to reusable shopping bags, we can help.
