GUJRAT: Eighty six buildings, including eight of the government schools, have been declared as dangerous in three tehsils of Gujrat district.

The district government has directed the tehsil municipal administrations (TMAs) concerned to issue notices to the owners of buildings, mostly private residential places, to either repair the dangerous structures or demolish them, otherwise, strict legal action will be taken against them.

A meeting of the district planning and design com-mittee was held under District Coordination Officer Liaqat Ali Chattha on Tuesday to review the situation which was also attended by assistant commissioners of all tehsils, tehsil municipal officers and additional district collector.

Some 72 buildings of Gujrat tehsil and six of Kharian had been identified as the most dangerous.

Buildings of eight government schools across the district had also been declared dangerous and despite of the release of Rs49 million funds by the government for construction of the new buildings of the schools, work could not start.
