KARACHI: A police constable was shot dead in the Saeedabad area on Friday evening, police said.

The Ittehad Town police said that 45-year-old Tanveer Kaiser was sitting outside his home in Gulshan-i-Ghazi when helmet-wearing armed pillion riders emerged there, fired at him and rode away.

He sustained multiple bullet wounds in the head and chest and was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said senior medico-legal officer Dr Nisar Shah.

The incident appeared to be linked with the targeted killing of policemen in the metropolis, said Baldia SP Ejaz Hashmi.
