Rs300m state land retrieved

LAHORE: In a grand operation supervised by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Ahmad Javaid Qazi, a city district government team on Sunday retrieved a piece of commercial state land worth Rs200 million from a grabber in Badami Bagh near the Lorry Adda.

Officials told Dawn the five-kanal piece had been retrieved from UmairKhan, who had occupying it for long by constructing shops, hotels, a service station and a parking stand.

On Saturday night, the DCO was informed by the Lorry Adda and Ravi Town administration that a grand operation amid police presence was required to retrieve the land. The officials reached the site along with heavy machinery and removed all constructions.

The Model Town assistant commissioner (AC) also retrieved state-owned commercial land worth Rs100 million. The land measuring over six kanals was situated near the International Market. A team led by the AC retrieved the piece of land from a grabber after removing 26 shawarma shops. It also confiscated food ovens, tables and chairs and other items.

PRICES: A city district government monitoring team on Sunday observed an increase in prices of 11 out of 29 vegetables available atSunday bazaars.

While reviewing the market committee price comparison report with that of the last week, it noted that prices of 13 vegetables had increased. It found out that prices of 15 out of total 24 fruits had also increased, while those of six had decreased.

It also cancelled licences of six vendors besides imposing fine of Rs7,500 on others for overcharging and selling substandard commodities.
