India shoots down plane

2017-02-03
KARACHI: A Government spokesman said in Karachi last night [Feb 2] that a single engine Cessna training aircraft of the Lahore Flying Club was missing yesterday after its pilot reported being `attacked by another aircraf t`.

All-India Radio, in its afternoon bulletin yesterday announced: `A Pakistani military aircraft, which entered the Indian territory near Ferozpur this afternoon in a suspicious manner, was shot down at 1.30 p.m. this afternoon about 30 kilometres within the Indian territory.

The Pakistan Government spokesman denied this and said it was a civil aircraft bearing the registration number AP-AUB and was on a routine local training flight.

An official spokesman of the Civil Aviation Department said the single engine Cessna training aircraft `was being flown by Mr Yousuf Malik, a student pilot. He took of f from Lahore at 11.10 a.m. (WPST) and at 12.52 p.m. the pilot informed Lahore Control Tower that he was being attacked by another aircraft.

`His position appears to have been towards the Indo-Pakistan border. In accordance with the International Convention the Civil Aviation Regional Controller at Lahore enquired for the information from Delhi about the whereabouts of this aircraft and received a reply at 15.10 p.m.

(WPST) today that they had no news of this aircraft.`-Agencies [Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Rawalpindi,] Jakarta`s repudiation of the Indian Foreign Minister`s statement that there was a defence agreement between Indonesia and Pakistan, has caused little surprise in the of ficial quarters here. Pakistan, it was asserted, had never been in a defence agreement with Indonesia and yet the Indonesian Government helped Pakistan morally and materially during the Indian aggression in 1965.

It was quite obvious from the time Mr Chagla went on an anti-Pakistan spree following his visit to Jakarta, that he had gone completely off the tangent in an attempt to drive a wedge between Pakistan and Indonesia.
