Responders to park tragedy eulogised

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the moments of crisis like the suicide blast in Gulshan-iIqbal Park change the lives of nations and added the Pakistani nation has also risen up to root out terrorism through collective efforts.

`These are the examples which will change the course of history.

He was speaking at a function organised to acknowledge the services of officers and officials of relief agencies, police, administration, doctors, paramedical staff and nurses in the wake of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park incident at Model Town on Saturday.

The chief minister said all those who made all-out efforts for saving the lives of innocent victims of Gulshan Park tragedy and helped injured persons with commitment and efficiency were heroes of the nation.

He said the spirit of service to humanity shown by administration, police, doctors, surgeons, physicians, nurses, political colleagues and citizens was highly commendable. `Such a spirit malce nations and societies.

He said there was a need for honesty, hard work, commitment and dedication to resolve the problems of terrorism and extremism and make Pakistan a peaceful and strong country. He said the humanitarian spirit shown after the Gulshan Park tragedy had helpedPakistan earn respect in the comity of nations.Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said peace was essential for survival of a country and added that the Lahore tragedy was the worst example of cruelty and brutality. `If the commitment and efficiency displayed by all institutions after this incident is maintained, terrorism will be eliminated and peace will be restored in society.

Chief minister`s Adviser on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique and Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal also spoke on the occasion.

The gathering led by the chief minister offered Fateha for those who were 1(illed in the tragedy and also prayed for the peace and safety of the country.

Meanwhile, chairing a meeting to review overall law and order in the province and security arrangements at public places, the chief minister said the prevalling situation demanded urgent measures and directed the institutions concerned to perform their responsibilities efficiently and with effective coordination for foiling nefarious designs of enemies of peace.

He directed the institutions concerned to improve security arrangements for the people, besides evolving a comprehensive system for the monitoring of officials on duty. He said the senior officers should personally review the efficiency of officials deputed at important places.
