Eid-i-Milad being observed with religious fervour today

PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the fragile law and order situation the police have taken strict security measures, especially on the eve of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi (PBUH), which is being observed today (Sunday) with religious fervour.

Various religious organisations, who plans to hold Milad processions, have been asked to keep a close liaison with the local police to take quick action in case of any untoward incident.

A procession in connection with the Eid-i-Miladun Nabi was also taken out on Saturday in Gulberg, which was led by Sajjad Badshah.

A large number of people, including traders, participated in the procession, which ended at FawaraChowk. The speakers asked the people to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and also offer `fateha` for the victims of the Army Public School on the day.

The Peshawar district administration has, meanwhile, banned pillion riding for one day on Sunday (today) to avoid any untoward incident.

The police personnel have blocked several entry and exit points, mainly in the cantonment areas and Peshawar city to restrict movement of suspected persons.

The parking lots on Mall Road, outside Statelife Buildingandnear different police stations were also closed by stretching razor-wire and placing concrete blocks.

The personnel of security forces have also tightened checking of vehicles at various checkpoints in cantonment area.

`We have some information about a suspected vehicle and thus entry of vehicles has been restricted,` a police official said.

The streets and link roads leading to different religious places in the sensitive areas like Qissa Khwanihave also been closed by stretching barbed wire, while the residents were allowed after proper checking.

LAKKI MARWAT: Police averted a clash between two religious groups over Milad processions in Darra Pezu town here on Saturday.

Officials said that clerics of two groups had been insisting to take out separate processions. They said that the police intervened as separate processions could have disturbed the law and order situation.

An official said that talks between the clerics of both sides were held at Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan Police Station, but they failed to agree on a joint procession. This prompted district police officer Ismail Kharak and deputy commissioner Ihsanulah Khan to intervene.

Later, a meeting was held at the district police office which was attended by clerics of both the religious groups, members of Marwat Qaumi Jirga and elders of Pezu town. The meeting convinced thetwo groups on taking out a joint Milad procession and helping the law enforcers to maintain peace in the town.

MANSEHRA: People took out a motorbike rally in connection with Eid-i-Miladun Nabi (PBUH) celebrations here on Saturday.

The rally started from Masjid Gulzar-i-Madina and culminated at the same point after completing aroundofthecity.Speakingonthe occasion, Maulana Qudratullah Qadri said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had spread the message of peace and brotherhood, and Muslims would always follow that message.

DI KHAN: Comprehensive arrangements have been made to observe Eid-i-Miladun Nabi on Sunday (today). Mosques and buildings in the city have been illuminated to mark the occasion with religious fervour. About 16 Milad processions would be taken out in various parts of the district.

Meanwhile, around 1,600 police personnel have been deployed to ensure peace and religious harmony on the occasion.
