Trump ban: another `crusade`?

2017-02-04
IN a display of `great courage` to keep his election campaign promises, United States President Donald Trump through an executive order put a ban on visitors f rom seven Muslim countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Meanwhile, Trump`s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus told Columbia Broadcasting System news that the ban placed on seven Muslim countries could be expanded to include Pakistan.

Isn`t it rather queer to note the absence of a major Muslim country from this list? Public memory is not that short to forget that 15 out of 19 hijackers involved in 9/11 were of Saudi origin. Osama Bin Laden and most of his Al Qaeda members were also of Saudi origin.

The omission of Saudi Arabia from the list is not without reason. Is it because Saudi Arabia also has the world`s largest oil reserves or Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest purchasers of American weapons, or in some cases, production feasibility of some expensive United States military equipment depends upon Saudi purchase agreements? So, the world is seeing one more Republican, a true successor to George Walker Bush, who is af ter Middle East oil.

He has openly stated that `it was a mistake to leave Iraq.

The world may witness another `crusade`.

But this time he will have to go it alone, there is no Tony Blair, and Theresa May has already made public Britain`s policy to remain away from any such future adventure.

Abid Mahmud Ansari Islamabad (2) DONA LD Trump`s visa ban on people f rom seven Muslim countries shows he detests all Muslims. It seems his behaviour and policy towards Muslims can create chaos and religious discrimination in the world, paving the way for anti-Trump movements which will destabilise his government.

Ubaid Zehri Khuzdar (3) MOST Muslim countries do not create jobs for their people and as a result all qualified people leave for the US and for greener pastures.

With the US government`s visa restrictions, it should be an eye-opener for the governments of Muslim countries.

Our Sindh government should also openits eyes and create jobs and recruit only qualified people so they may not leave for foreign lands to earn their living.
