Four injured in Indian firing along Line of Control

MUZAFFARABAD: Two teenage girls and as many men were wounded in Azad Jammu and Kashmir when Indian troops resorted to firing from across the heavily militarised Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.

Eighteen-year-old Attigue Qureshi, who was injuredon Saturday in Dhiroti Polas village, died on Sunday while being shifted to Islamabad from a health f acility in Rawalakot.

His funeral was held in Chatra village.

Poonch Deputy Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz told Dawn that shelling inChirikot,NakarKot,Kakota and Dhiroti Polas villages of Abbaspur sector started at 9am and continued for some time intermittently.

`They (Indian troops) used both small and heavy arms, causing injuries to a man and two women,` he said. He identified the vic-tims as Saima, 19, of Kakota, and Shah Mohammad, 65, and Tabasum Manzoor, 16, of Nakar Kot.

Two houses, belonging to Abdul Rehman and Mohammad Shaukat, were damaged, he added.

In the neighbouring Haveli district, 60-year-oldMohammad Din Mir was injured by the splinters of a mortar shell in Digwar village. He was admitted to a military-run health facility in the area.

Shelling in that sector alsobegun at 9am, but halted after some time, an official said. Military sources said that Pakistani troops had effectively responded to the unprovoked Indian shelling.
