PARACHINAR/SWABI: Two people were injured when an explosive device planted at Sadda bazaar in Lower Kurram Agency went off on Saturday.
Officials of the political administration said that the bomb was planted near the Sasta bazaar in Sadda by unidentified miscreants. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The injured were shifted to the Sadda hospital.
Meanwhile, the local authorities recovered a cache of explosives and weapons and arrested a man during a raid on a house in Pir Qayyum area of Kurram Agency on Saturday.
The seizure includes rockets, hand grenades, anti-aircraft guns and explosives. A man was taken into custody and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Also in the day, body of an unidentified man was recovered from Sheikh Khwar area. The political authorities have started investigation.
In SWABI, a police party of Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate survived an attack by suspected militants here on Saturday, said officials.
The officials said that the police party, led by SHO Mushtaq Hussain, was on a routine patrol when they suddenly came under fire on Bisak Road from the nearby mountains.
The police van was hit by bullets, but all members of the police party remained safe.
It was not immediately known whether the police retaliated or not. However, the officials said that soon after the incident they launched an operation in the area to arrest the attackers.
A police official said that they had not made any arrest so far and any progress in the case would be shared with the media at a proper time. `It seems that suspected militants were behind the attack,` he said.
A case has been filed against unidentified militants and an investigation is under way.
