BZU sub-campus students continue protest

LAHORE: Students of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Lahore sub-campus continued their protestforthe second day on Tuesday and blocl(ed the Canal Road to press the authorities to remove the ambiguity looming over their future.

Protesting against the Higher Education Commission`s non-recognition of degrees issued by BZU Lahore sub-campus, scores of students kept trafhe of all kind suspended for about two hours on the Canal Road, causing jams on the thoroughfares and adjoining arteries.

Carrying placards, thestudents were raising slogans against the university and the HEC and demanding immediate recognition of their degrees.

`Where was the HEC when students were being admitted to the Lahore campus? Advertisements appeared in newspapers and the HEC took no action. Why?` asked protesters.

The protesting students dispersed peacefully after two hours but the traffic mess caused by the protest took several hours to be cleared.

Taking note of the students protest, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought a report from the HEC while directing it to resolve the issue on an immediate basis.
