Closure of HU extended for two more days

M A N S E H R A / MINGORA: The Hazara University on Thursday extended the closure of its main campus for two more days over the recovery of the body of a student allegedly involvedinkillingof another student.

The body of Taib was found in a field in Baf fa area on Wednesday night.

The deceased is stated to be the cousin of Chand, who alleged killed Salman, a H U student from Swat, on Wednesday night at a snooker club after heated exchanges.

Thebodywaslater shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital for postmortem.

District police officer Ahsan Saifullah suspected that Taib accompanied Chand, a former HU student, when the latter killed Salman, and that he, too, was later killed by the gunman to get a cross-FIR registered against Salman`s group.

He also said the police had arrested over 130 students for blocking Karakoram Highway, attacking police, and torching vehicles and properties.The DPO said those, who weren`t found involved in the act of taking the law into their hands, would be freed, while the rest would face criminal proceedings.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed in and around the university to cope with any untoward situation after angry students blocked the KKH for many hours at night inconveniencing the users of major artery.

Sajjad Ahmad, a spokesman for HU, announced the university would remain closed for two more days to mourn the killing of another student.

`Our two students were killed in the brawl, so we`re suspending academic activities for Friday and Saturday, too. The classes will resume on Monday,` he said.

In Mingora, the people took to the streets against the HU student`s killing as the boy was laid to rest in Charbagh village.

The protesters demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of the killer.

Led by Abdullah Yousafzai, the ANP workers also protested against the killing outside the Swat Press Club and demanded the They demanded exemplary punishment for the student`s killer.

The protesters also lashed out at the police for failing to arrest the killer.

Protests by the ANP were also reported in Matta, Khwazakhela and Barikot tehsils.
