Students demand judicial probe into BKU attack

PESHAWAR: The Students Action Committee of Bacha Khan University (BKU), Charsadda, has demanded of the federal and provincial governments to form a judicial commission to conductaprobeintothe attack ontheir university and bring the culprits and facilitators to justice.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the committee chairman, Hazrat Ali Yousafi, said that the government had ignored the injured students of the university, as they were waiting for financial support and still passing through a great trauma. He asked the government to extend medical and other facilities to the injured students of Bacha Khan University like those given to the victims of Army Public School,Peshawar.

Flanked by other committee members, including Adnan Khalil, Ihtesham, Hamid Swati, Ihsan and Fazal Haq, he said that the students were psychologically disturbed and a special treatment programme and positive activities should be arranged for them.

Mr Yousafi expressed dissatisf action over the security measures at the university and said that the students were still scattered and confused due to the poor security arrangements at the campus.

`The government should take solid steps to upgrade security at the university. A comprehensive package for the victim students, including waiving tuition fee, should be announced for them,` he demanded.

He said that the parents were reluctant to send their children to the uni-versity under the present security arrangements. He asked the government to announce a special scholarship programme for the students to encourage them.

The committee chairman demanded gallantry awards for the fallen students of the university, and exemplary punishment to the culprits and facilitators of the attack.

He criticised the federal government`s silence over the killing of innocent Pakhtuns. He said that the attacl< was aimed at keeping Pakhtuns away from education. He asked the government to constitute an independent judicial commission to conduct a probe into the attack.

The students warned that if their demands were not fulfilled within a week they would hold a sit-in outside the Parliament House and Governor`s House in Peshawar.
