Matli town remains shut on STP call

By A Correspondent 2014-09-05
BADIN: A complete shutdown was observed in Matli town on Thursday on the call of the Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) in protest against police excesses.

The shutdown was observed due to unabated atrocities of police, especially of SHO Matli Haji Allah Dino Panhwar, against party activists and local people.

All the markets, bazaars and shopping centres remained closed throughout the day.

Talking to reporters, Aslam Mendo, Gul Mohammad Shah, Younis Rustmani and other leaders of the STP alleged that the SHO was being backed by some political elements.

They threatened to continue the protest if the SHO was not removed, adding that they had given an ultimatum of four days to police officials for his transfer.

Badin SSP Hasib Afzal Baig told Dawn that he had taken strong notice of the protest and invited notables of the town to know about the behaviour of the SHO.

He vowed not to spare anybody involved in atrocities against common people.
