Police launch campaign against illegal hide collection

RAWALPINDI: The police launched a campaign in the garrison city against camps set up illegally for the collection of hides of sacrificial animals.

The police arrested 10 people across the city during Eidul Azha in this regard and registered cases against 31 others for cleaning trotters by burning them on roadsides, which is a banned activity.

Eleven of those arrested for cleaning trotters by burning them were arrested in the limits of the Banni police and the others were from Pirwadhai, Chaklala, Dhoke Charaghdeen, Jamia Masjid Road and Dhoke Khabba.

Three prayer leaders were also booked for violating the ban on the use of loudspeakers in Dhoke Khabba, Chamanzar Colony and Chitti Hattian. These include Maulana Abu Bakar Taukadi, Maulana Abdul Malik and Mohammad Hussein Zia. The Punjab government had directed the police and district administrations across the province to take strict action against those violating the ban on the use of loud speakers for the collection of hides of sacrificial animals and donations.

Those violating the ban on the use of loudspeakers are to be tried under the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulations) Act 2015.

After seeking details of banned organisations and those who are on the watch list and verifying all the applicants from the Special Branch, the district administration had issued no-objection certificates (NOC)to 137 seminaries, mosques, trusts and other organisations for colleting the hides of sacrificial animals.

The seminaries and organisations had beendirected to submit details of the hides and the amounts generated from their sales af ter Eid.

The Special Branch of Punjab police had also been directed to monitor and report the illegal collection of animal hides.

It had reported that some workers of an organisation had been seen collecting hides and storing them in a godown near Murree.

They were unable to produce an NOC for hide collection when asked.

Meanwhile in Taxila, the police arrested a man on charges of collecting hides illegally inside a mosque in Mohalla Farooq-i-Azam.

Assistant Sub-inspector Imtiaz Kiyani told newsmen he had raided the mosque after receiving a tip off and had found Irfan Ali collecting hides in the name of the Al-Rehmat trust which does not have permission from the district administration to collect hides.

The police confiscated 15 hides from his possession and registered a case against him under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and started further investigations.

In a separate incident, a man was shot and injured during an attempted robbery in Pind Gondal, in the limits of the Taxila police station in the early hours of Monday.

Fageer Gul reported to the police that two masked men broke into his house. He said one of the men opened fire at him and he received a bullet on his right arm. The robbers managed to flee from the scene.

Capital police act against 8,000 motorists The police in Islamabad took action against8,000 motorists during Eid for various traffic violations, including one-wheeling, over speeding, rash and negligent driving, acrobatics, mistreating and misbehaving with families in other vehicles and under-age driving.

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued tickets and fined 7,000 motorists and also confiscated and later impounded 1,500 vehicles at various police stations.

The police said parents of the motorists whose vehicleswereimpoundedwillbe called and informed about the violations committed by their children. Parents will be asked to give an undertaking that they will prevent their children from being involved in such activities in the future.

The police will also be requesting magistrates to impose the maximum fine on the motorists when they are approached for the release of their vehicles.

The ITP ad warned motorists they will be dealtwithstrictlyif theyarefoundinvolvedin such practices during Eid.

Some 550 traffic personnel were deployed at various religious congregations and public places in order to ensure the smooth flow of traf fic and to keep a check on stunts.

SSP Traffic Malik Matloob Ahmed called on parents to stop their children from doing wheelie and racing or else the ITP would be left with no choice but to take action against those who indulge in this practice.

ITP constituted 20 squads to prevent one wheeling on 7th and 9th avenues, Margalla Road, Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road and Rawal Dam Chowk.-Staff Reporter
