Ex-employees of district council seek pension

KARAK: Retired employees of the district council, Karak, have demanded payment of their pension being withheld for the last one year.

In this regard, a meeting of the workers union chaired by Zafar Saif Khattak was held here on Tuesday which was attended by the serving and retired employees of the district council.

The meeting regretted that the retired employees were deprived of their pension for the last one year, creating problems for them to feed their families.

The former council employees said that the pension was their only source of income to meet their kitchen expenditures.

The participants said that they had brought the issue into the notice of the authorities concerned, but nobody seemed serious to solve it.

The retired employees set a three-day deadline for the release of their pension and threatened to launch a protest movement if the demand was not accepted.

Meanwhile, a group of village nazims demanded action against corrupt officials in the education department.

The demand came in a meeting of the village nazims held at Lakki Ghundaki here on Tuesday.

Theythreatenedtostage a protest outside the DC office if action was not taken within three days.

They claimed that they would expose the corrupt elements during their protest.

Police sources said that the woman and her husband, residents of Paloski Banda in Takht-i-Nusrati, were seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a pick-up van near Ahmadabad Chowk on the Indus Highway.

The two were taken to a nearby hospital, but the woman did not survive.

Her husband, whose name could not be ascertained, was referred to a hospital in Peshawar in a precarious condition, the sources said.
