Panel to look into woman`s death

FAISALABAD: A twomember police team has initiated a probe into the `mysterious` death of wife of Iqbal Town SP at his official residence on Jail Road.

Shan Bibi, wife of SP Baka Mohammad Bugtti, was taken to the surgery emergency of the Allied Hospital on Saturday morning by the unidentified policemen who told doctors that she had fallen from stairs and suffered a head injury.

Following the incident, City Police Of ficer Afzaal Ahmed Kausar has constituted a team comprising SSP (operations) Muhammad Masoom and SSP (investigation) Dr Farrukh Raza.

The CPO told Dawn that the team had been directed to conclude the inquiry within 24 hours to `resolve the mystery.` He said the committee would also record statement of the SP.

Sources said the woman was already dead when she was shifted to the hospital. Af ter a brieftreatment, they said the body was shifted to Dera Bugti through a private ambulance as the hospital authorities were not allowed to conduct autopsy.

Later, the district police contacted the Dera Bugti police for postmortem examination, an official said on condition of anonymity.

Medical Superintendent Dr Rashid Maqbool said the woman was brought to the hospital at 8:30am and about 30 minutes after treatment she passed away.

He said the attendants didn`t allow doctors for her medico-legal certificate and autopsy.

He said following the attendants` request the body had been handed over to them.

Shah Nawaz, brother of Shan Bibi, received the body claiming she had fallen from the roof.

Nawaz took the body to Dera Bugti in a private ambulance.

The CPO said all aspects of the incident would be investigated during the inquiry that would also be submitted to the IG.
