Bail plea in `encounter` case rejected

KARACHI, April 5: A sessions court dismissed on Thursday a bail application of a policeman in a case pertaining to the killing of a young man in a `fake` encounter.

Assistant sub-inspector Faisal Jaffari, head constables Shafiq Anjum and Ijaz Ahmed and constables Namoos Khan, Mazhar Hussain and Abdul Latif of the Ferozabad police station were booked for kidnapping Mohammad Ali Butt in December 2010 within the remit of the Baloch Colony police station and killing him in a fake encounter.

Constable Latif moved a bail application that the additional district and sessions judge (south) Abdul Razzaq dismissed after hearing arguments from both sides.

The case (FIR 10/2011) was registered under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 302 (punishment for gatl-i-amd), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Shafiq and Latif are in jail custody while other policemen are absconders.
