Teachers accuse information seeker of blackmailing

SA HIWAL: A public school headmaster and his two colleagues have filed a harassment application with the Chichawatni Saddar police station against a member of the public who sought on May 23 information about Class VIII enrollment, results and school funds under the Information Act.

Government Boys Elementary School, 2/11-L, headmaster Khalid Husain confirmed that he had received an application by Abdul Jabbar from higher authorities under the Punjab Right to Information Act one week ago. He said he had not given the required data to the senior officials.

On Thursday, he, however, approached the police that Mr Jabbar had demand a Rs30,000 monthly payments from the school staff. Mr Jabbar denied the alle-gations, saying he had filed the application with the district education officer (male) under the act seeking Class VIII students` attendance record from May 2016 to February 2017, their results, development funds received from June 2016 to April 2017 and school council members` credentials.

Under the information act, the department is to furnish information in 14 days and in the case of Jabbar, the deadline is June 8.

Mr Jabbar says he is exercising the law only for the good working of the school. He denied demanding the payment.

District Education Officer Rashid Nadeem confirmed he had received the information.

Assistant Sub-InspectorMansha saidhehadreceived the application by headmaster Khalid Hussain, PT Bakhtiyaar and teacher Muhammad Afzal that Jabbar was blackmailing them into monthly payments.
