KARACHI: An inactive worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in Orangi Town on Wednesday, police said.
They said 38-year-old Habib-ur-Rahman was targeted outside his home in Sector 6-E by armed suspects.
Although the police confirmed the victim`s political association, they were not sure about the motive for his killing.
`The victim sustained seven bullet wounds and died on the spot,` said Inspector Yaseen Gujjar, the SHO of the Orangi Town police station. `He was attacked outside his home near Bilal Masjid seconds after he returned from his workplace in his car. The attackers were already waiting for him, fired shots and sped away. The body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formali-ties at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
When asked about background of the victim and possible motive behind the killing, the SHO said he was associated with the MQM.
However, he was inactive for the past several months, he added.
`We can`t say right now whether it`s a targeted attack on political grounds or not, but the incident is being investigated from all possible angles. All facts would be taken into account before reaching any conclusion,` he said.
Separately, Pakistan Rangers, Sindh claimed to have arrested suspects and recovered arms, drugs and looted valuables from their possession during separate actions.
A spokesman for the paramilitary force said that the Rangers` troops conducted raids in different areas of the city and arrested suspected peddlers, robbers and street criminals.
