Woman among three killed in Kohat incidents

KOHAT: Three people were killed in different incidents here on Wednesday.

A young man fell into a well in Bahadar Kot area on Rawalpindi road. The local people retrieved him from the well and shifted him to hospital where he died.

In Naway Kalay area, a woman was killed when the roof of a mud house caved in. The victim, Mumtaz Begum, was sleeping when the roof collapsed. The local people pulled her out from the debris and shifted her to KDA divisional headquarters hospital.

In the other incident, a tribesman of Oralaai Agency was shot dead by two persons over unknown reasons. The Ustarzai police registered a case against Safeer Ali and Ghadeer Ali, who escaped the area after the incident.

Meanwhile, the city police arrested a leader of an interprovincial gang of smugglers and recovered a big quantity of hashish from him at the City Pathak on Wednesday.

The city police stopped a suspected car at the City Pathak checkpost which was coming from Kurrram Agency. Upon search of the vehicle the police found 24 kilograms of fine quality hashish from it. Police arrested the alleged smuggler, Mohammad Islam, who was from the Kurram Agency, and also impounded the vehicle.

He told the police during preliminary interrogation that he was carrying the consignment to Punjab to fetch a huge profit.

ARRESTED: Former ANP MNA Pir Dilawar Shah and his three companions were on Wednesday arrested on charges of verifying the documents of Afghan refugees for getting CNICs, police said.

The four were arrested after their bail applications were rejected by the additional sessions judge Irshad Ahmed Khan.

The other three persons included Kashif Mahmood, Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Shoeb.

The cases of 12 other persons involved in the same case have been pending in different courts awaiting decision on their bail before arrest appeals, said a police official.
