Potato, kinno exports

2016-10-06
THIS refers to the article `High valuation by Russia on potatoes and kinno exports` (Sept 18). I would like to ask the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) why research on seedless kinno has not been carried out so far.

This requires an analysis of Pakistani`s kinno comparing with Spanish and Moroccan kinnos. I suggest that samples of soil of both countries be managed and compared with soil of Khanpur (near Taxila) which was tested to be ideal for red blood malta (orange) as well as soil of farms of Sargodha considered ideal for kinnos.

The fitness of soil for seedless kinno be assessed to grow plants meeting Russian criteria. If we succeed in producing seedless kinnos, the valuation issue will ultimately be resolved and Pakistani kinnos will be competitive with Spanish and Moroccan kinnos.

I would also suggest regular research by PARC so that top quality seeds of all crops can be provided to farmers in getting better yield and meeting international standards.

The federal food and research ministry must hold workshops and exhibitions for the awareness of farmers so that there is also competition among them.
