Rain, thunderstorm bring relief

LAHORE: Partial rain and strong winds changed the weather in the city on Wednesday, dropping temperatures much to the relief of people.

Rain was reported from some localities in the city such as Mughalpura and Jallo after dark clouds covered the sky. It was accompanied by strong and somewhat cold wind.

The Met department said rain was generated by a shallow trough of westerly wave over upper parts of the country.

It said Abbotabad received 73mm of rain, Balakot 21mm, Malamjabba 15mm, Saidu Sharif 9mm, Bannu 7mm, Murree 28mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 25mm, Zero Point 11mm, Bokra 3mm), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 22mm, Golra 10mm, Chaklala 7mm), Mangla 5mm, Jhelum 5mm, Muzaffarabad 20mm, Garidupatta 7mm, Rawalakot 6mm.

The department forecast rain with dustthunderstorm at scattered places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Mirpurkhas division, Fata, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 24 hours.
