Pakistan varsities to be facilitated in research: Hungarian envoy

LAHORE: Hungarywill facilitate the Pakistani universities in establishing academic and research linkages with its top Hungarian universities, says Hungarian Counsellor in Islamabad Sandor Mihalko.

`Both the countries have nonproblematic diplomatic relations for the last 50 years and Hungry is supporting Pakistan hght terrorism and meet energy crisis, Mihalko said while addressing a seminar on `Hungary-PakistanEuropean Union Relations` at the Government College Universityhere on Wednesday.

He said Hungary offered 240 scholarships to Pakistani students.

He also briefed the students about structure and formation of European Union and its relationships with Pakistan.

`There is a need to enhance mutual trade and strengthen academic and cultural relationships between Hungary and Pakistan, he said and added a Hungarian energy company had invested $2m in Pakistan in recent years and was providing 14 per cent of all energy need of the country.

`There is no significant Pakistani investment in Hungry. The mutualtrade between Hungary and Pakistan has also dropped by 5pc in the last one year,` he said.

GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hasan Amir Shah said it was a matter of great pride that Hungarian nationalDrGottliebWilhelmLeitner had laid the foundation of the GCU.

UET: An orientation seminar on `Ottoman History, New Turkey and Turkish Language` was held at the University of Engineering and Technology here on Tuesday.

Mesut Kacmaz, Rumi Forum Pakistan chairman, said Pakistan was second home for the Turkish people. `There is a need for cultural exchange and building exem-plary linkages between the two countries,` he said.

He also talked about the history of Ottoman, trends of modern technology in Turkey.

He said the Turkish language was being taught in more than 100 countries of the world.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Fazal Ahmad Khalid said Turkey was enriched with culture and history and Pakistan had deep routed relations with it. In modern era, new Turkey should be taken as a role model for progress in the Islamic World, he said, adding the UET was seeking collaboration with Turkish technical universities.
