TMA gets rickshaws to pick solid waste

GUJRAT: Tehsil Municipal Administration has inducted three rickshaws with mini hydraulic containers into its solid-waste squad to keep narrow streets of the city clean.

The vehicles have been purchsed for yet to become functional Gujrat Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs1.8 million.

Gujrat Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Khuram Tarehngi said these `Mini Tippers` with hydraulic containers would be used to pick garbage in the congested and narrow streets of the city.

He said as many as 18 more motorcycle rickshaws with small containers would also be inducted in the fleet in the next few weel(s after completion of tendering process in he current week.

He said the TMA has planned to replace the handcarts with motorcycle rickshaws to minimise use of human resource in garbage lif ting innarrow streets.

The TMO said the number of such vehicles would be gradually raised to at least 72 for as many wards of 12 urban union councils of GujratMunicipal Corporation.

As per the TMA`s data, Gujrat city produces at least 250 tons of solid waste daily out of which not more than 180 tons is being lifted and dumped.
