n a two-day conference that concluded on Thursday, researchers and academics underlined the need for theoretical development in social sciences and pledged to work out a viable alternative solution to the contemporary indigenous social issues through research.

They said all disciplines in social sciences were equally important and should be recognised at par with other disciplines because social sciences can play an important role in development of the society.

`Socio-sector development is most important area for the overall progress of the society which could be well achieved through the freedom of expression, thoughts and choice, said Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Dr Shahid Siddiqui in his remarks at the conclusion of the national conference organised by the university.

Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed assured the participants of the commission`s support in undertaking research on social sciences. The participants adopted a number of recommendations for social reformation through innovative and applied research. They recommended that social sciences should focus on disseminating inter-regional, cultural, economic and social information to promote national integration.
