MULTAN: An accountability court on Thursday extended the physical remand of former vice chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Dr Khawaja Algama, and Lahore subcampus Director Hamza Munir until Nov 16.

Both the accused were arrested on charge of misusing authority and cheating the public at large for establishment of an illegal sub-campus.

Special judge Muhammad Akhtar Bahadur extended the remand on the request of NAB authorities who informed the court that further investigation in the case was required. The court also directed the medial examination of Dr Algama who was sufferingfrom fever.

The NAB inquiry involves Dr Algama, BZU Registrar Malik Munir Hussain, Lahore sub-campus chairman Munir Ahmed Bhatti, his son Hamza Munir Bhatti and others.

NAB had produced Dr Algama on Oct 29 the day he was arrested in the court while stating that the accused was arrested in compliance of arrest warrants issued by the NAB chairman and investigation into the matter was authorised by NAB Multan director general on Aug 18.

They alleged that the accused, in connivance with the registrar, had misused his authority in establishment of the campus while rules were violated and BZU syndicate was bypassed in the matter.
