Bajaur teachers demonstrate for promotion

KHAR: The teachers of government schools in Bajaur Agency have demanded promotion like their colleagues in settled areas andthreatenedtolaunchaprotest movement if their demand was not accepted till Dec 15.

They also staged a protest demonstration here on Friday against the delay in their promotion.

Carrying banners and placards the protesting teachers marched from the government high school, Inayat Kallay, to thebypass road.

Scores of teachers from various schools in the agency participated in the demonstration, which was organised by All Bajaur Teachers Association.

The protesters chanted slogans against the federal and provincial governments and directorate of education, Fata, for delaying promotion of teachers in tribal areas.

The association`s president Nisar Khan, general secretary Jafar Shah and other office-bearers addressed the protesters.

They said that the governmenthad announced the upgradation policy two years ago, but it was yet to be implemented.

They criticised the government for its discriminatory attitude with the teachers in tribal areas as far as the raise in salary and allowances were concerned.

`The teachers of tribal areas deserve a fair treatment as they have been fulfilling their duties in a very tough environment,` said Nisar Khan.

The speakers said that not giving due rights to the teachers could affect their efficiency. They also urged the government fill allthe posts lying vacant in different schools since long.

The speakers asked thefederal government, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and senior ofñcials of the Fata Secretariat to take notice of the issue and immediately promote teachers in the tribal areas under the promotion policy of 2012.

They urged the directorate of education, Fata, to immediately hll the vacant posts of assistant education ofñcersin thelocaleducation department and preference should be given to senior teaching staff in this regard.
