SHANGLA: Ziauddin Yousafzai, father of the Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, has provided furniture to a school where he received his primary education about 40 years ago.

Initiating the campaign `pay back to your school`, Mr Yousafzai urged the affluent people to pay back to their schools where they had studied.

Setting an example, he provided desks and chairs to government primary school, Barkana, here where he completed his primary schooling.

He said the activity might seem small but it had highly positive impact on society.

He appealed to all the well-off alumni to visit their old schools and help provide missing facilities there. `It may be building a wash-room, constructing a boundary wall, buying student chairs or providing uniform to the deserving students. This may not cost much but will have a huge impact as our schools will turn into better learning institutions,` he said.

Nadia, a grade one student, who was sitting on a newly-provided chair, was happily reading her book. She said she along with her classmates used to sit on bare ground because of which her clothes got dirty. `We felt cold in winter and our books would always get torn off on the grounds. Now we feel easy,` she told Dawn.

Another first grade student, Zahid, said students were feeling good to study in clean and comfortable environment.

Mubarak Hussain, a teacher, said providing furniture as payback initiative seemed small but it had big impact on the studies of children.
